The ship’s dedicated S.A.L.T. Kitchen remains the restaurant where I’d go night after night to find locally inspired food that is new to me – I love to try things that I’ve never tasted before and that occasionally challenge my tastebuds. The ship’s art collection also is on full display here, and it is elevated when compared with the cruise line’s other ships. Silversea has traditionally taken an understated approach to luxury, with its ships featuring neutral (beige and gray) color palettes that are occasionally punctuated with accents and art. Yes, the neutral palette still is there, but it serves as a canvas to the bright vases, abstract art and striking statues.

Day 3: Croatia’s Zadar and Silver Nova’s Restaurants

The vertical arrangement for ship cabins is a layout style that makes it difficult structurally to offer soaring spaces. By going horizontal in the design, Silversea could insert more high-ceiling venues across the public interior decks of Silver Nova (decks 3, 4 and 5). This included not only the atriumlike space in the middle of the ship but also the space occupied by Silver Nova's main showroom, the Venetian Lounge. At the heart of these interior spaces is a soaring, three-deck-high atriumlike space offset to the ship's starboard side. A multifloor glass wall bathes the center of the ship's public decks with natural light — something that we haven't seen in a significant way on luxury ships. This is accomplished in great part due to an all-new, asymmetrical design for the ship's public decks that reorients their key features toward the sides of the ship instead of the center.

I’m a big fan at breakfast of the honey-grilled peaches, and it’s a marvelous spot for a low-key, relaxing lunch. And it’s also an excellent example of how Atlantide does the small and big things in a homey way. You can look up into the balconies from the outdoor aft staircase on Deck 5 to Deck 4, and you can look down into the balconies from above. The large suites at the back of the ship also include six Master suites, another new category of rear-facing suites for the line. Guests dine a la carte beneath a pergola while enjoying a fresh sea breeze that rustles the delicate petals on several decorative flowering trees. The breakfast menu focuses on healthy options (no scrambled eggs or bacon here), with smaller portions and unusual preparations that may not be to everyone’s liking. The more extensive lunch menu, however, has something for everyone, from creative salads and poke bowls to burgers and deep-fried fish ‘n chips. You can also order one of the dozen or so Neapolitan-style pizza options from the Spaccanapoli menu.

Food on Silver Nova is top-notch, in no small part because of the line’s commitment to introducing and immersing its guests in local food and the way it connects to culture. Onboard, the best spot to see this in action is the excellent S.A.L.T. Kitchen, which serves a different menu every night focused on the port the ship visited that day. In some cases, ingredients for an evening menu are literally brought onboard during the day from that port.

Silver Note (capacity 54 seats/Deck 5 midship-aft) is a premium bar lounge (1920s-themed jazz club) and a dinner-only restaurant. Sized 141 m2 (1515 ft2), Silver Note features premium leather furniture, a dance floor, a baby grand piano, live music performances (jazz and blues). Silver Note is complimentary, but dinner reservations are required.

Sitting on this 431-square-foot veranda is a private hot tub, and the inside wraparound floor-to-ceiling windows allow you to enjoy the ocean. The asymmetrical design of Silver Nova isn't the only reason the ship feels more open than many other luxury ships. The openness also is a result of a change to a "horizontal" format for cabin and public area decks, something that Silversea has never done before on one of its traditional ocean ships.
