The numbers are impressive today, but they probably won't remain this impressive for very long. It is just too hard a growth rate to sustain given the economic sensitivity of the industry, the inherent constraints of ships and, well, the way basic math works. There are only so many potential customers, and only so many rooms on Carnival's cruise ships to accommodate them. At some point, 50% new-to-cruise customers growth just isn't sustainable.
In other words, if you are sailing seven-night cruises, you will be Gold level on your fourth sailing, as you will be passing the 25-day mark on that sailing. Members earn one point for every night they sail on one of the line's ships. Most onboard activities such as shows and deck-top attractions are included in the fare. In 1996, the 101,000-GT Carnival Destiny (now Sunshine) became the world's biggest passenger ship and the first to weigh over 100,000 tons. For 50 years - between March 11th, 1972 (CCL's maiden voyage with TSS Mardi Gras out of PortMiami) and March 11th, 2022, the company served 90+ million passengers. The vessel's keel-laying (aka "coin ceremony") ceremony was held on June 18, 2019, with which officially started ship's construction at Meyer Werft's Turku Shipyard in Finland. During the special event, newly-minted unique coins were placed under the first hull/keel block in the drydock. The coins are traditionally placed to bring luck to the vessel during construction and later at sea.
